Not too much to update. We’re still in Carlsbad, NM, waiting for the 5th wheel parts to be shipped to the repair shop so we can get the leaf springs and hydraulic jack leg taken care of and get back out on the road. I talked to the shop yesterday and it looks like the parts should all be delivered by this Friday and we’re scheduled to have the repairs done on Tuesday the 26th. If all goes well, we should be able to get down to Terlingua and the Big Bend National Park area by New Year’s weekend.
But that means we’ll be spending Christmas, unexpectedly, in Carlsbad. It’s not ideal, but we’re determined to make the best of it. While we’ve been here we’ve already taken the opportunity to get a lot of little projects done and we’ve done our best to see some of the lesser known sights worth seeing in this area.
Last weekend we had a nice hike out at Sitting Bull Falls, an interesting little oasis in the middle of the Chihuahuan Desert stemming from a few nearby springs bubbling out of the ground.
And last night our neighbors from Arkansas gave us tickets they couldn’t use for a local “Christmas lights on the river” boat tour thing. It was a little chilly but very nice to get out and see the lights. I’m not sure what we’ll do on Christmas Day, but hopefully we can find something to make things feel a bit more festive.
Otherwise we’re just playing the waiting game and hoping that all goes well with the parts delivery and repairs next week so we can move on down to Texas before the end of the year.
Sorry you’re stuck there longer than expected. But good that you have no real deadlines to be somewhere. And it sounds like you’re making the most of it. Enjoy every day you can!
